ASCHENTE! [ ] Never Loses…The No Game No Life Review!

Welcome to my review of No Game No Life!

More recently Sentai Filmworks released the DVD, Blu-Ray, and Collectors Edition for this show and I managed to grab the Collectors Edition for the sweet price of $77.99. So sit back and enjoy my review of what I consider to be the best anime from 2014 No Game, No Life.

Let’s start with some of the goodies you get with the Collectors Edition!

You get a really sweet double-sided poster

Various post cards…some that are lewd to 😉

A sweet set of stickers!

A neat little character card and a set of rules that include what number your set was(I got 588!)

And, one of my favorite things from the goodies, A set of playing cards that have the characters on them!

Not bad right?! One of the many reasons to own the collectors edition of No Game No Life. Now that we have the goodies out of the way, let’s get to the actual show!

Enter The Game..

Enter Sora and Shiro, a brother and sister gaming god duo that go by the online name of [   ] or Blank. They live a life of Game, Eat, Game, Sleep, Game, Game, Game. They get their first challenge when they receive an email saying “Have you two siblings ever felt like you where born into the wrong world?” What appears is a simple chess game and yet the way Sora explains it makes it very complicated indeed. What seems like hours later they finally beat the person who sent them the email, but he sends them another email stating “Excellent Work. If you’re that good at games…Isn’t the world a tough place for you to live? What do you two think of your world? Is it fun? Is it easy to live in?”

Another email comes in “If there were a world where everything was decided by straightforward games…A world atop a board, one where the rules and goal were clear, what would you think about that”. Sora responds in kind with “If there’s a world like that, then we were born into the wrong world.”

The Story:

The Story in No Game, No Life is very very creative and it uses the vivid imagination of Yuu Kamiya and stellar animation from Madhouse studios to bring it to life. The addition of adding in mythical creatures such as Elves, Flugel or Angels and Werebeasts only add to the fun of the story. The fact that it’s set in a world where there is no violence and no war and a set of rules known as The Ten Pledges has to be followed makes it all the more interesting. The character interactions are a main focal point of the show and drawn you in to get you hooked on the characters themselves, like the interactions between Sora and Shiro the step-siblings or the interaction between the siblings and Steph or Jibril the Flugel. Each interaction brings a lot of fun to the table, especially when Steph has her freak out moments.

and speaking of the characters!

The Voice Cast:

With the Blu-Ray/DVD set comes both the Japanese and the English dub audio

let’s start with the Japanese first

and now for the dub cast!

Shiro is voiced by Caitlynn French who has also voiced Hana Isuzu in the dub of Girls Und Panzer, Ai in the dub of Sunday without God, Mio Nishizono in the dub of Little Busters and Kanna Makino in the dub of Tamako Market

Stephanie Dola is voiced by Sara Ornelas who is also relatively new, she voices Sui Nemuri in Chuunibyou S2 and Elbia Hanaiman in Outbreak Company.

Jibril the Flugel is voiced by Amelia Fischer who is a relatively new voice actress

Izuna Hatsuse is voiced by Kira-Vincent Davis (List of Kira Vincent Davis roles)

Tet is voiced by Shannon Emerick (List of Shannon Emerick roles)

Kurami Zell is voiced by Kara Greenberg (List of Kara Greenberg roles)

whew! that was a lot of work!

Both the Japanese and English cast bring their own unique way of bringing No Game, No Life to life. The varied differences are huge to, while the anime itself still has all the references to other anime(I.E. Jojo’s, Doraemon etc etc) but the dub goes right over them. It’s expected because a lot of the references are from other companies but that’s the charm of having the Japanese as well as the dub on the same disc.

After watching both the Sub and Dub of this show I can conclusively say that the unique charm of No Game No Life is something special that we can share with the future generations on what a good anime is. All together I hope we get a Season 2 out of this due to the light novels, because if it’s one anime that truly deserves its No Game No Life.

Here’s the portion where you normally see a rating on anime..not the case here. This is a Great Anime period. Watch it if you want or don’t, it’s up to you to decide.

Until then this is PervyFatman,

See You On The Other Side.

If you  follow any of the members of the Mahou Shoujo Defense Force(if you follow HarimeNui12 I’m so sorry) you know that we decided to take up the challenge of Sabakon because of the many issues we had with the panel picking group for the regular local con that we go to. It’s not to say that we didn’t get panels for them, it’s to say that we weren’t necessarily happy with said panels that had gotten picked and not happy about how we were treated.

We saw that Sabakon had extended their time frame for panel submissions and quickly decided “It’s Vegas, why the hell not!” We submitted all of our regular panels and we ended up getting four that we really wanted to run! The Con starts on Saturday but we’ll be there in Vegas on Friday to have fun and enjoy Vegas for the weekend!

For those wondering the panels we were supposed to run at the local convention where

What The Futa(18+), this is our newest edition to our line of 18+ panel ideas that we have.

Trigger, this is where we would talk about the studio and the anime it has produced.

Gainax, pretty much the same as Trigger, except Gainax is a lot longer because we talk about all the good anime they’ve put out and skip the bad stuff.

Project Diva F, which is also new to us. Really we were going to just hook up a PS3 to play Project Diva F and talk about the game while we play it.

Two out of those four panels are ones we would have liked to run(What the Futa and Trigger) but our main problem is that we didn’t get a lot of our more interactive panels that we have like our variant of The Guide to F’d Up Hentai or Your Anime is (Not) Flawless. We love to involve our audience in our panels and their reactions to our panels as well, I mean it’s pretty funny see some ones reaction while voicing a character from a really F’d up doujin.

But for Sabakon we also got four panels as well, all of which we want to run. We even got two newer panels we submitted as well!

We’ve got:

Kill La Kill(Sunday 11:30 am- 12:30pm), this is where we talk about and show clips from one of our favorite shows from 2013, Kill La Kill. We’ve run this before to full rooms so we hope for the same turn out.

Don’t Waste Your Time(Sunday 6:30pm-8pm), this is where we will talk about certain anime that the audience suggests and we explain why they shouldn’t watch it and depending on what anime it is, we have different varied reactions.

Con Survival 101(Monday 10am-11am), We will be explaining how to survive a convention and more than likely sharing stories of our own accord. This is a new one for us but it should be a fun one none the less.

and last but not least

What the Futanari(18+)(Monday 1:30pm-2:30pm), plain and simple we’ll be talking about Futanari in both doujin and hentai form. This one should be interesting just to see the audience turn out.

Haven’t mentioned this yet, but this will be our first time to Sabakon! So four panels for our first time is actually really great. The staff have been way helpful to, we got in contact with them recently about badges and they’ve been nothing short of awesome for us! So a big shout out to them!

So be sure to come see us September 5th-7th in Las Vegas at Sabakon for some fun times and shenanigans along the way! Until then
